Alan Barrie is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high performance international mail services and for the information technology infrastructure required to achieve this.

Barrie began his career in logistics and distribution with TIP Ltd. He then worked in the Royal Mail letters division in a range of operational roles, later moving to Post Office Ltd. where he became the Change & IT Director, leading the successful restructuring of its point-of-sale system, connecting all UK post offices to UK banks and establishing the platform for the rapid growth of postal banking activities.

Subsequently he returned to the letters division as Operations Strategy and Design Director where he led the team that created Royal Mail’s operational transformation strategy, based upon process change and the application of large-scale IT to letter mail operations. Barrie left Royal Mail in 2008 to advise postal operators around the world on the implementation of major operational change.
