Jean-Paul Bailly Re-elected as Chairman of IPC

Dag Mejdell, CEO of Norway Post, to Assume Chairmanship in December

Brussels - June 4, 2010

Jean-Paul Bailly, chairman of the board of the International Post Corporation (IPC) and Chairman and CEO of Groupe La Poste, France, was re-elected as chairman of the IPC board at its meeting in San Francisco on 20 May. Dag Mejdell, CEO of Post Norway, will assume the chairmanship of the IPC board on December 1, 2010.

Mr. Bailly who has been serving as chairman of the board since January 24, 2006 said, “I am honoured to represent 24 of the world’s largest posts through a time of enormous change in the postal industry.” Bailly went on to say, that “now more than ever it is crucial to the future of the industry that posts that may compete on many levels, must also cooperate to move the industry forward in a time when it is facing a steep decline in letter mail volume, new sources of competition and increasing options for substitution. In order to remain relevant and a provider of choice in the future, the posts must be able to proactively plan to meet the needs of a rapidly changing marketplace and respond to our stakeholders with innovation, quality and delivery solutions that fit their needs.”

During Mr. Bailly’s tenure as chairman, the members of IPC have improved international delivery quality, expanded cooperative industry research and intelligence and led the effort to develop an environmental monitoring and measuring system to address the carbon footprint of the postal industry.  Last year in Copenhagen during COP15, Mr. Bailly and 19 other postal CEOs announced a collective 20% carbon reduction goal by 2020.

“Jean-Paul’s leadership has been vital to the strategic direction both for IPC and the postal industry as a whole,” said Herbert-Michael Zapf, president and CEO of the International Post Corporation.  “Jean-Paul Bailly’s ability to facilitate cooperation among the posts is helping to move us as an industry through some extremely challenging times and is leading us in the direction of new opportunities and new ways of thinking about the industry’s future.”

The board has appointed Dag Mejdell, CEO of Norway Post, to take over as chairman of the IPC board effective December 1, 2010.  Prior to joining Norway Post as CEO in 2006, Mr. Mejdell held a number of positions including chief financial officer, group director and chief executive officer of Dyno Nobel ASA from 2000-2005.  Mr. Mejdell holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Norwegian School of Management BI. His other board appointments include: board member of IK Investment Partners Industrial Advisory Board, vice chairman of SAS AB, vice chairman of the corporate assembly Orkla ASA and chairman of the Employers’ Association Spekter.

“I am honored to accept this appointment as from December and look forward to carrying on the good work of our current chairman, Mr. Bailly,” announced Mr. Mejdell.  “IPC has successfully delivered value to its members for over two decades and I am excited at the prospect of leading this important organisation as we move into our third decade of postal cooperation, quality management and commitment to excellence.”
