Between 2014 and 2018, the share of revenue that USPS generated through its Shipping and Packages segment increased from 20% to 30%.

Over that period, total parcels and express volumes handled by the operator increased by close to 12% a year on average, although strong competition has in part slowed the rate of growth since 2015. Better than expected performance for transactional and advertising mail helped USPS to achieve steady revenue growth in 2018, although high staff costs contributed to operator reporting a net loss for the 12th consecutive year.
