Mark Harrison joined IPC in 2002 and is the Head of Markets.
The analysis and insights of the IPC Markets team are focused on global e-Commerce, data driven marketing, the global postal industry performance and postal sector sustainability. The team provides essential knowledge on trends affecting the strategic direction of the postal industry, while assisting postal operators to achieve profitable growth through innovation. Being an independent research body at the heart of the postal industry means that findings are objective, non-partisan and cost-effective.
Mark’s team is responsible for conducting research and analysis on market needs for cross-border e-Commerce and for translating these into postal service specifications to provide online retailers and SMEs the possibility to expand their business to global customers. As such Mark works regularly with senior executives from global platforms including Alibaba, Amazon, eBay, Google and Rakuten, as well as with academics and consultants specialising in the global supply chain.
Mark was responsible for launching the IPC Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System in 2009. The EMMS programme measures participant's carbon management proficiency, carbon performance indicators and emissions. Since its launch, emissions for the postal sector have been reduced by 10.2 million tonnes, saving €1.3bn of costs and achieving the 20% emissions reduction target six years ahead of schedule. The programme has been extended to include postal operators in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, North and South America.
Mark set up the IPC Cross-Border E-Commerce Shopper Survey and in 2016 over 24,000 consumers across 26 countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North-America and Asia were researched to determine their preferences and experiences in order to help postal operators improve their delivery performance.
Mark is a regular speaker at global conferences on e-commerce logistics and in May 2017, moderated the IPC Annual Conference on Optimising The Postal Network for E-Commerce.
Prior to IPC, Mark worked for Royal Mail for 14 years in both the International and Electronic Service business units where he undertook a variety of marketing and operational roles.
Mark has a degree in Chemistry from the City University in London, a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and an MBA from Westminster University, London.
