Barcelona, June 26, 2026 – Correos has launched a new self-consumption photovoltaic installation at its Automated Processing Center (CTA) in Sant Cugat del Vallès , which is already generating its first kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy. The installation passed its official inspection (OCA) without incident and the monitoring system is now operational, marking the effective start of its operation and allowing for real-time optimization of energy production .
This action is part of the company's sustainability and energy efficiency strategy and is included in the Correos Solar project , through which the postal and parcel delivery company is advancing the transformation of its infrastructure towards a more efficient, resilient, and environmentally friendly model. The first phases of this initiative include the commissioning of 12 self-consumption photovoltaic plants at various logistics centers throughout Spain, with a total installed capacity of 4.1 MW. The project, conceived as an evolving initiative, is structured in different phases already underway and open to expansion , with the aim of maximizing the generation of renewable energy for self-consumption.
The installation, located on the roof of the Sant Cugat del Vallès CTA (Centro de Transporte de Aire - Transport Technology Center), has a capacity of 450 kW and consists of 627 high-efficiency photovoltaic modules and three 150 kW inverters. This infrastructure will generate approximately 577.4 MWh of renewable energy annually , covering roughly 24.57% of the center's energy needs. The production of this clean energy will prevent the emission of nearly 140 tons of CO₂ per year, thus contributing to reducing Correos' carbon footprint and fulfilling its environmental commitments.
The Sant Cugat del Vallès plant is part of the second phase of the Correos Solar project, which also includes installations at other strategic centers such as the Colón CTA in Barcelona , as well as logistics centers in Valencia, Alicante, and Seville , with a combined capacity of approximately 1,927 kW. This deployment will continue with a third phase incorporating new centers in Vitoria, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid (Rampa 7), Málaga, Tenerife, and Las Palmas , with the aim of significantly expanding the renewable energy generation capacity of the company's logistics network.
These actions build upon the experience gained at the Automated Processing Center in Madrid, whose photovoltaic installation served as a benchmark for the program's development. Taken together, the planned phases will allow Correos to exceed 4.1 MW of installed capacity, solidifying Correos Solar as one of the most significant renewable energy generation projects undertaken by a public company in the logistics sector.
