Marking the 10th anniversary of the launch of IPC’s Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System (EMMS) programme, postal chief executives gathered in Bonn, Germany at the IPC 2019 Annual Conference to celebrate progress so far and look at challenges for the next ten years.
The rapid increase in e-commerce and continued urbanisation means that delivery logistics will put additional pressure on the urban infrastructure and potentially increase carbon emissions. How can posts, through their ubiquitous physical network, contribute to a sustainable delivery model? How can innovative delivery methods play a role in the development of sustainable logistics? How well has the postal sector performed in sustainability over the last ten years? What will be the new challenges, measurements and targets that will shape the sustainability programme for the next ten years? What will be the requirements of stakeholders for future postal sector sustainability initiatives?
Global sustainability experts and thought leaders were invited to speak and debate.
Dr Richard Hewston, Principal Consultant, Environment and Climate Change, Verisk Maplecroft presented together with Marc Daelman, Partner, PwC Belgium the achievements of the IPC postal sector sustainability programme and discussed its alignment with some selected UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Peter Bakker, President and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development provided the voice of business with a keynote speech. Other keynote speakers included Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Keynote speakers were joined at the table by Tonne Wille, CEO Posten Norge and Frank Appel, CEO of Deutsche Post DHL.
