The pandemic impacted all areas of Hellenic Post-ELTA’s business in 2020, driving a 24% decline in total revenue for the year.

The post recorded a sharp decline in both mail and parcels and express volumes in the year, while demand for physical transactions amid the pandemic drove a 9% drop in financial service revenue. To support revenue growth, diversification and cost reduction, in early 2021 the post launched its five-year transformation programme that will see increased investment in automated sorting and network restructuring. In Q3 2021, it began operations at a new AI-enabled robotic sorting line, capable of sorting 3,000 items per hour. However, revenue for mail and parcel services fell 6% and 5% respectively, driven by lower volumes. The domestic parcels sector remains highly competitive, with the post seeing its volumes drop 4% year on year. Through additional funding from the Greek government, it aims to increase its competitiveness in parcel and e-commerce delivery, investing in capacity expansion and automation.
