Swiss Post has committed to acquire Portmann Gestion SAS, a logistics company based in Sausheim near Mulhouse (France). The family business employs around 790 staff. The acquisition will allow Swiss Post to expand its close-knit logistics network and offer its business customers in Switzerland and neighbouring countries better transport solutions, especially to and from France. The acquisition is scheduled for autumn 2023.

Swiss Post provides companies that need a strong logistics partner to transport their products with an all-inclusive package that includes storage, customs clearance, delivery and returns – even beyond national borders. It offers the package to all kinds of companies, from tool manufacturers to online shops for kitchen appliances. In order to expand its network to France, Swiss Post plans to acquire Portmann Gestion SAS, a family-run business based in Sausheim near Mulhouse.

No changes for the staff

The transport company Portmann was founded in 1946 and today employs around 790 staff at 17 locations in France, three locations in Luxembourg and one in Poland. Portmann has a fleet of over 400 trucks and is mainly active in France. It is one of the largest transport companies operating between France and Switzerland and is already a logistics partner of Swiss Post. In the event of the acquisition, Portmann Gestion SAS will retain its existing name and brand. The company will continue to operate independently in the market as a wholly owned subsidiary of Swiss Post. All its staff will be kept on and employed under the same conditions as before. Swiss Post granted a put option to Portmann Gestion SAS to sell the company. The acquisition is scheduled for autumn 2023.

Swiss Post must be located close to companies

In order for Swiss Post to offer its customers in Switzerland and neighbouring countries logistics solutions across national borders, it relies on a sufficient number of drivers, vehicles and warehouse locations in the most important neighbouring economic regions.
