PostNL has put its first electric truck into service, April 2023. With this electric truck, we collect parcels from business customers in Utrecht. With the introduction of the electric truck as a pilot, PostNL is taking the next step in making the entire delivery process even more sustainable, specifically in long haul transport.

Emission-free delivery in 2023

Together with its customers, PostNL wants to make the e-commerce market more sustainable in order to achieve emission-free delivery throughout the Netherlands and Belgium by 2030. The introduction of the electric truck is an important next step in this ambition: the truck makes it possible to drive electric in the city with long haul transport as well. And where electric driving is not yet possible, we will use green fuels (such as HVO100).

Leader in sustainable transport

In recent years, PostNL has already taken numerous steps to make the logistics process more sustainable. We remove the unnecessary air from parcels. We bundle delivery and return logistics. We advise consumers on sustainable choices. And we are greening our vehicle fleet. We have been using electric bicycles, scooters, buses and LEVVs for some time now. By now, 70% of all our motorized vehicles are sustainable, we have over 2,000 electric vehicles in our fleet, and we deliver millions of letters and parcels every day on foot or by bicycle. In this way we want to make the entire logistics sector more sustainable step by step and remain at the forefront.

Recognition from the logistics sector

PostNL is also receiving recognition from the logistics sector for its sustainability ambitions. For example, we scored best in the sustainable transport category of the Top 100 Logistics Service Providers 2023. And The Financial Times has named us one of Europe's Climat Leaders.
