CTT – Correios de Portugal, launched this Monday, July 21, the new phase of automation of the Algoz Operational Center, Silves, Algarve, ensuring 200 direct and indirect jobs by the end of the year, reinforcing the proximity to the populations and the company's presence in this area of the country.
With this modernization, CTT also inaugurates today the new parcel separation machine (sorter), which represented an investment of around 1.5 million euros and which more than doubles the processing capacity of objects in this center, serving a population of almost 500 thousand inhabitants, from all municipalities in the Algarve and also from some municipalities in the Alentejo.

For João Bento, CEO of CTT, "This investment is part of CTT's operational development strategy, strengthening our Iberian region by opening a new operational corridor between the Algarve and Andalusia. On the other hand, it reinforces CTT's proximity to the local population, creating jobs in this region of the Algarve and improving service quality. We are very pleased with the launch of this sorter, a continuation of several operational investments we are undertaking, strengthening our role as a logistics operator for e-commerce."

The Algoz Operational Center began operations in April 2022, comprising an infrastructure of approximately 4,500 m2, in a deployment area of over 9,000 m2, which currently guarantees 50 direct jobs and 100 indirect jobs, with the creation of a further 50 jobs expected by the end of the year.

These facilities handle express parcels and mail, with 61 departures, and over 150 delivery routes depart from this center daily. The new sorter has a maximum processing capacity of 125,000 parcels per day.

The investment in this new infrastructure is expected to boost CTT Expresso's business growth, enabling the hiring of more human resources to cope with the expected increase in processing and distribution routes.

The new machine will also reduce processing times, with significant positive impacts on the quality of service provided in all municipalities served by this operational center.

This investment strengthens the capacity that CTT is installing in its operational centers, with the aim of increasing order processing capacity, as a result of the growth of e-commerce and the company's growing role as an e-commerce logistics operator with a strong Iberian presence.

CTT has new facilities in Aveiro, Leiria, and Palmela, and significant modernizations in Coimbra, Braga, Maia, and Lisbon. In Spain, new sorters were installed last year in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and San Fernando de Henares.

The current infrastructure has 73 operational centers in the Iberian Peninsula, 30 of which are fully automated, and 17 of which serve both countries, processing more than 500,000 objects per day, with full Iberian coverage.
