This step is a response to a change in American legislation, which plans to abolish the "de minimis" duty-free regime for all postal shipments containing goods with a value of up to $800 from August 29, 2025. Slovak Post will therefore accept only letter shipments containing documents in printed form from August 25, 2025.
By decision of the US administration, shipments of goods will be subject to customs duties, which must be paid upon submission.
Due to the necessary adaptation of systems and processes, several European countries have already suspended the reception of shipments containing goods destined for the USA, and the Slovak Post will temporarily implement the same measure. PostEurop and the Universal Postal Union are negotiating a solution, and discussions are underway with the US administration about a transition period that would allow the implementation of the necessary changes.
Slovak Post will inform about further developments regarding sending shipments to the USA depending on the progress and results of negotiations between the interested parties.
