GLS will double Amsterdam capacity with new depot

GLS has started construction of a new depot in Amsterdam to double its capacity to serve the Dutch metropolis. With the new location, the parcel and freight service provider is preparing for future increases in shipments. The handling area will increase to 6,200 sqm and a state-of-the-art sorting system along with 140 loading and unloading gates will ensure the handling of more than twice as many parcels in comparison to the current depot. GLS did not disclose the size of the investment or the total capacity of the new depot, which is due to go into operation in the first quarter of 2020.
