In the framework of the collaboration between IPC and the Universal Postal Union (UPU), several initiatives have been taken in the field of sustainability to the benefit of all postal operators within both organisations. A series of webinars on sustainability issues relevant to the entire postal sector is being organised.

March 2020 - Webinar on climate-neutral postal operations

On 4 March 2020 the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and International Post Corporation (IPC) co-organised their fourth open sustainability webinar with the title “Climate neutral postal operations – the how and the why of carbon offsetting”. Representatives from postal organisations across Europe, Asia and Africa took part.
The webinar looked closer at how postal organisations may reduce their carbon emissions through a carbon offsetting programme.

Miguel Alejandro Naranjo Gonzalez, Programme Officer, Climate Neutral Now Lead, UNFCCC outlined the basic principles of offsetting, and presented some of the options available on the market. Daniel-Sebastian Mühlbach, Head of CSR and Environmental Management, Austrian Post shared their three-step approach to CO2 neutral delivery.

After the presentation, a Q & A session was moderated by Pieter Reitsma, Sustainability Manager, (IPC), and Lovisa Selander, Environment and Sustainable Development Expert, (UPU).

October 2019 – Webinar on transition to renewable energy

On Wednesday 16 October UPU and IPC jointly organised their third open sustainability webinar. The topic this time was “Transition to renewable energy – best practices from two postal operators“. Thirteen posts from around the world registered for this event. Presentations were given by El Houssin AitYassine, Chief of Maintenance and Security Division at Poste Maroc, and by Peter Shelley, Sustainability Manager - Energy and Carbon at Australia Post.

The webinar was moderated by Lovisa Selander, Environment and Sustainable Development Expert at UPU and Pieter Reitsma, Manager Sustainability of IPC.

November 2018 – Webinar on Alternative vehicles, the future of postal fleets

On 07 November 2018, IPC and UPU hosted an open webinar for postal operators around the world about the introduction of alternative vehicles to postal fleets, discussing benefits for the organisations as well as challenges experienced.

In what ways can alternative vehicles bring value to postal organisations as well as to the communities they serve? How does one find the right technical solutions available on the market? Is it possible to reduce carbon emissions while also saving money on vehicle maintenance and fuel?

Posts from around the globe participated in the webinar: Surinam Post, Deutsche Post DHL Group, Royal Mail, PostNord, Australia Post, Emirates Post, Swiss Post, Poste Maroc, Iraq Post, Poste Italiane, Belize Post and Le Groupe La Poste. March 2018 – Webinar on environmental data collection

On 21 March 2018, IPC and UPU hosted an open webinar for postal operators around the world about the measuring of carbon footprints and the challenges of environmental data collection.

Carbon footprint measurement and environmental inventories call for access to large amounts of data from across operations. How does one get access to validated, credible data? How can data collection processes be managed and involvement of the necessary staff guaranteed? This first webinar hosted by IPC and UPU together looked closer at the challenges related to data management and reporting.

Posts from around the world participated in the webinar. Three postal organisations shared their approaches and experiences, CTT Portugal Post, United States Postal Service and Correos de México.
