The growth was significantly driven by increasing international e-commerce flows, especially from large trading platforms. Shopping in small and medium-sized online stores is also rapidly gaining popularity.
"We are working to ensure that parcel machines are not only in major cities, but also in smaller communities, and that residents of towns and villages no longer have to travel dozens of kilometers to the district center. It is no coincidence that new parcel machines have been installed in such areas as Schweicarija, Žeimiai, Smalininkai, Kudirkos Naumiestis, Merkinė, Skaudvilė, Užventis, Vabalninkas, Subačius, Ramučiai, as well as in the Kretinga district. There are already over half a thousand parcel machines operating in the country, and this number will grow significantly in the near future. Attention to the regions remains one of the most important priorities," says Acting Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas.
According to Kastytis Valantinas, Director General of Lithuanian Post, the growing flow of parcels shows that residents are increasingly choosing convenient and fast parcel delivery solutions.
"We strive to be the first choice for parcel delivery for residents and businesses in the Baltic States, therefore we consistently invest in the convenience of services, fast delivery and reliability. As e-commerce grows, we are expanding the network of parcel lockers, increasing its capacity and improving logistics processes so that we can ensure high quality of services and meet the growing needs of customers," says K. Valantinas.
During the first half of this year, 21 additional LP EXPRESS parcel machines were installed in Lithuania, and three more were expanded. For the first time, LP EXPRESS parcel machines appeared in ten new locations – in Suveitsari, Žeimiai, Smalininkai, Kudirkos Naumiestis, Merkinė, Skaudvilė, Užventi, Vabalninkes, Subačius and Ramučiai.
There are currently 528 LP EXPRESS parcel lockers operating in Lithuania, and about 100 more are planned to be built in the second half of the year.
Rapid growth in the number of parcels was also recorded in Latvia and Estonia. In the first half of the year, 3.65 million parcels were delivered in both countries through the Unisend network parcel machines operating there. This is 94 percent more than in the same period last year.
