According to a new executive order from the US President, the " de minimis " duty-free regime for all postal items with a value of zero to $800 imported into the US will be abolished, effective August 29, 2025.
The fundamental issues and procedures, particularly in the area of customs collection, the specification of the data collected and the manner of cooperation with the US customs authorities, have not yet been clearly defined by the relevant US authorities. Partial technical details were only published on 15 August, leaving an extremely limited time frame both for preparing the technical transfer of data to the US side and for setting up the collection of customs duties, which must now be paid before the shipment enters the US. For this reason, it is not possible to ensure compliance with the requirements of the executive order at this time.
For Czech Post customers, this means that from August 22, 2025 until further notice, the reception of shipments to the USA containing goods, regardless of their value, will be suspended. It will still be possible to send shipments to the USA containing only written messages or documents, and between individuals, shipments containing gifts up to a maximum value of USD 100. However, these shipments will also require proper completion of the postal customs declaration, with an emphasis on a correct and complete description of the contents and the actual value in the currency of the destination country, i.e. in USD. Even despite the correct and complete completion of the customs declaration, customs procedures at entry into the USA may be extended, which means longer delivery times.
The reason why the restriction on the receipt of shipments occurs a week before the executive order takes effect is the fact that at the moment the goods enter the territory of the USA, these goods must already be cleared through customs and the assessed amount must be paid. Czech Post cannot guarantee the delivery of a shipment to the territory of the USA if it is submitted to Czech Post after August 22. Czech Post has no influence on the time of transportation of the shipment after its dispatch from the Czech Republic.
We therefore ask all submitters to fill out the customs declaration thoroughly and correctly with all the relevant information so that proper customs clearance can take place and the shipment can be delivered to the foreign recipient as soon as possible. For a detailed description, see the article How to send a shipment abroad or you can contact the customer service line at 210 123 456.
We will inform you about further developments regarding sending shipments containing goods to the USA, with regard to the expected clarifications from the US CBP (US Customs and Border Protection) and the Universal Postal Union via the ČP website.
