Madrid, August 22, 2025.- Correos announces the temporary suspension of the acceptance of packages to the United States and Puerto Rico with a commercial value equal to or less than $800, effective Monday, August 25 , following a recent change in U.S. customs regulations that eliminates the tariff exemption it had applied to low-value incoming shipments. Consequently, Correos will accept these types of shipments until Sunday, August 24, at 11:59 p.m.

The United States has approved an executive order eliminating tariff exemptions for low-value ("de minimis") shipments, which until now applied to shipments with a declared merchandise value equal to or less than $800. Thus, starting August 29 , all merchandise shipments of this value destined for the United States and Puerto Rico will be subject to tariffs, with amounts that will vary depending on the country of origin and the value of the product.

This situation forces Correos, along with all postal operators that manage shipments destined for the United States, to substantially modify their processes and increase shipment controls to implement the new customs requirements, significantly impacting international postal logistics and e-commerce flows.

On August 15, U.S. authorities shared the detailed requirements necessary for the implementation of their executive order. Due to the limited timeframe to adapt to these new requirements, and in order to protect the interests of its customers, Correos will temporarily suspend shipments to the United States and Puerto Rico until the appropriate solution has been developed and implemented to comply with the new regulation, which affects aspects such as the collection of duties at source, the collection and reporting of new data, and interaction with the various cross-border institutions involved in the new mechanism.

The decision affects package shipments from Spain to the United States and Puerto Rico . Letters and documents without commercial value, books, and gifts sent by individuals with a value equal to or less than $100 will not be affected and will continue to be accepted.

Correos is closely monitoring the developments and potential consequences of this executive order. It is also working with other international postal organizations and operators to find solutions to ensure, as quickly as possible, the continuity of shipment flows to the US for all its customers, businesses, and individuals. The suspension of shipments is widespread among European postal operators.

Correos will promptly inform its customers about the progress and developments in the implementation of these measures in order to resolve this suspension as quickly as possible.
