On average, Posties were involved in more than five incidents every week, with many requiring hospital treatment, time off work and ongoing recovery.
The most common third-party accidents involving Posties in the past year included drivers:
Australia Post General Manager Safety, Russell Munro, said that even one incident is one too many and highlighted the shared responsibility for safer roads.
“Behind every statistic is a person who came to work expecting to return home safely. The data reminds us that road safety isn't only about highways and long-distance travel. Many incidents occur in the everyday environments we all share - at the end of a driveway, approaching an intersection, navigating a roundabout or passing one of our vehicles on a local street.
“Our priority is to deliver for all Australians while ensuring the safety of our team members. As deliveries peak during the festive season and more Posties are on the road, take a moment to slow down, look twice and take care. A moment of awareness can make all the difference in preventing a serious incident,” Mr Munro said.
Every day, Australia Post Posties travel over 256,000 kilometres delivering to Australian homes and businesses. They navigate suburban streets, school zones, intersections, driveways and footpaths, sharing these spaces with motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, who all have a role to play in keeping each other safe.
