DHL Express has expanded its US network with the recent opening of a new facility in St. Petersburg, its second site in Florida’s Greater Tampa Bay region.

The $4M investment in the DHL Express service center increases shipment capacity and enables faster shipment processing, resulting in earlier deliveries and later pickup cutoff times for local customers, according to the company.

DHL explained that B2C and B2B e-commerce shipment volumes continue to drive unprecedented growth in the west coast of Florida, including Pinellas County.

The new facility addresses this growing demand by splitting shipping volume with the company's existing facility in Tampa, ultimately boosting service for customers across Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, and enabling first deliveries to go out for delivery 30+ minutes earlier.

Strategic location

“The company’s expansion in St. Petersburg was an ideal location, strategically located near an airport which provides us the flexibility we need as we grow our air network,” said Richard Saavedra, VP and General Manager for DHL Express in the Southeast U.S.

“International shipment growth in this market has been around 18% over the last three years, so this investment ensures we can continue to grow with our customers, while providing the highest level of service.”
