ENGIE Solutions, the service branch of ENGIE, was selected to equip 4 sorting centers of bpost group with LED lamps. These modifications will enable bpost group to save 51% on its electricity consumption for the lighting of its sorting centers in Belgium, resulting in a reduction of CO2 emissions of 1,000 tons per year.

The challenge of the energy transition is a priority for ENGIE, but also for many companies. With its new B2B brand ENGIE Solutions, ENGIE wants to make a difference in Belgium on the ground and help its customers to become carbon neutral through adapted and accessible solutions.

After having previously installed solar panels at the sorting centers of Charleroi, Liège, Antwerp and Ghent for a total of 3.2 megawatts, ENGIE now focusses on the lighting of these 4 sorting centers of bpost group. A total of 170,000 m² will be equipped with LED lamps that not only consume less energy, but are also more comfortable for the thousands of employees who work here every day.

Reduction of emissions of 1,000 tons of CO₂ per year

ENGIE's recognized expertise in LED lighting - 'relighting' - offers bpost group a sustainable solution that also optimizes the use of existing installations, the choice of suppliers and the maintenance of new installations.

The annual consumption for the lighting of bpost group's 4 sorting centers will be reduced from 5.6 GWh to 2.8 GWh per year, a reduction of 51%. This means a reduction in consumption of around 1,000 households and a reduction in emissions of 1,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

This project will contribute to bpost group's ambition to reduce the CO2 emissions resulting from its activities by 2030.

Philippe Van Troeye, CEO ENGIE Benelux : "ENGIE has the ambition to become a reference in the relighting of companies in Belgium and to equip 8,100,000 m² within 7 years with LED lighting, the equivalent of the surface of 3,000 olympic swimming pools. I am particularly proud that bpost group trusts us with this mission, having previously placed its trust in us for the installation of solar panels on its sorting centers. These two projects illustrate our desire and ability to assist our customers in their transition to a carbon-neutral future".

Jean-Paul Van Avermaet, CEO of bpost group: "Well aware of the environmental impact of its activities, bpost group is constantly innovating to reduce its CO2 emissions. For many years, our company has been taking numerous initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint. The installation of thousands of LED lamps in the sorting centers of Antwerp, Ghent, Liège and Charleroi should also be seen in this context. As a result, the annual electricity consumption at these sites will be reduced by more than 50%. In this European Week for Sustainable Development, bpost group, which wants to be close to its citizens and shares their concern for the environment, remains determined to continue to play its pioneering role in this area".
