A total of 82 mail carriers complete daily rounds in the Ghent region: 38 of them use electric vans, sometimes combined with a bicycle (combined route), while 44 deliver by bike (either a standard or electric bike with a trailer)
Last year, mail carriers in the Ghent region covered a total of 437,750 kilometers to deliver all parcels and mail to their destinations. On a daily basis, that breaks down to 605 kilometers by bike and 1,146 kilometers by electric van. From now on, these distances will be covered using only electric vehicles.
Parcel lockers and other pickup points
In addition to home deliveries, bpost offers an extensive network of pickup points throughout Ghent, allowing everyone to choose how and when to receive their parcels. Residents of Ghent can choose between personal service at a Post Office, Post Point, or Parcel Point, or opt for one of the many 24/7 accessible parcel lockers across the city. There are 45 pickup points in Ghent, including 4 Post Offices, 9 Post Points, 6 Parcel Points, and 26 Parcel Lockers. That means there is a pickup point every 400 meters, or within a six-minute walk in urban areas.
As in other major cities like Bruges, Ostend, Brussels, and Leuven, bpost aims to further expand its zero-emission deliveries in Ghent. By continuing on this path, bpost plans to offer nationwide emission-free deliveries by 2030.
