From now on, Bpost will deliver parcels and mail in Lier without emissions. This means that postal workers will complete their rounds using electric vans or bicycles. Additional pick-up points also make it easier for city residents to send or collect a parcel just around the corner. Lier is the 22nd city where Bpost is introducing these sustainable parcel logistics.

By carrying out parcel and mail rounds with electric vehicles or e-bikes, Bpost’s postal workers produce no CO₂ emissions. In Lier specifically, 23 postal workers will now carry out their rounds electrically. In the city, they deliver up to 2,000 parcels per day without unnecessarily burdening the environment or producing exhaust gases.

A green fleet and additional pick-up points

In addition to deploying an electric fleet for postal workers, a dense network of pick-up points also helps make parcel logistics in the city as sustainable as possible. This makes it easier for residents to collect or send parcels on foot or by bike, reducing the number of kilometres travelled in the city.

In Lier, Bpost has therefore installed no fewer than nine Bboxes (parcel lockers) in addition to the post office, where the 38,000 residents of Lier can collect their parcels 24/7 whenever it suits them. There are also three Postal Points (retailers offering postal services) and one Parcel Point (retailers where parcels can be collected or sent). In total, this amounts to 14 locations where people can go to send or collect their parcels.

109 postal codes, 22 cities

Lier is not the first city where Bpost delivers parcels and mail emission-free. The first was Mechelen in 2020. In recent years, Bpost’s sustainable parcel logistics have been rolled out across 109 postal codes, including these 22 cities:

- Aalst
- Andenne
- Bruges
- Brussels (Region)
- Charleroi
- Diest
- Eeklo
- Eupen
- Hasselt
- Kortrijk
- Mechelen
- Mons
- Mouscron
- Namur
- Leuven
- Lier
- Liège
- Louvain-la-Neuve
- Ostend
- Roeselare
- Seraing
- Verviers

This year as well, Bpost aims to make several cities emission-free. These efforts are part of Bpost’s ambition to deliver all parcels in Belgium emission-free by 2035. Today, this is already the case for 28% of parcels.

By 2050, Bpost even aims to become a fully carbon-neutral company.
