With an overall score of 93.0%, CTT clearly surpassed the average of the operators evaluated, set at 81.7%, also exceeding the 90% target set by the IPC for the sector by 2030. The performance achieved reflects an integrated approach to sustainability, incorporated into the company's corporate strategy, operational management, and decision-making.
According to CTT's Director of Sustainability, Maria Rebelo, "achieving first place in this international benchmark demonstrates CTT's ability to transform its sustainability commitments into concrete and measurable results. This is a recognition that makes us very proud and reflects the integration of sustainability into our strategy and operations, as well as the daily work of our teams."
The SMMS assesses the performance of postal operators in seven key areas: climate change, air quality, circular economy, sustainable procurement, resource efficiency, health and safety, and learning and development. The methodology combines a qualitative assessment of the maturity of sustainability management systems with the analysis of quantitative performance indicators, with the results subject to validation and independent audit.
CTT achieved scores above 90% in six out of seven areas, particularly excelling in Health and Safety (97.0%), Climate Change (95.1%), and Learning and Development (94.6%). The results demonstrate the company's ability to transform its ESG commitments into concrete, measurable practices aligned with the challenges of the sustainable transition.
Among the main indicators that contributed to this ranking are the use of 100% renewable electricity in buildings, the increasing decarbonization of the fleet, as well as the reduction of more than 75% in direct greenhouse gas emissions from areas 1 and 2 compared to 2008. CTT's performance was also driven by the continuous improvement in the carbon efficiency of its operations and the incorporation of recycled and reused materials in 90% of its mail, express and parcel services.
The IPC also highlighted the high maturity of CTT's ESG management practices and the company's ability to translate its sustainability strategy into tangible results, both from an operational point of view and in terms of value creation for different stakeholders.
This international recognition confirms CTT's position among the most advanced companies in the postal sector in terms of sustainability and reinforces its ambition to continue leading the sustainable transformation of the sector, contributing to an increasingly efficient, resilient operation prepared for the challenges of the future.
