“We launched the Picapac pilot project in February in Rae municipality, in the areas of Peetri, Järveküla and Uuesalu. The project has generated strong interest and applications continue to come in. Based on the success of the Rae pilot, we decided to expand the project to the Viimsi area starting in March,” said Aleksei Kolesnikov, Picapac Product Manager at Omniva.
Picapac is part of Omniva’s parcel locker network. The locker allows users to receive, return and send parcels. Picapac lockers can be used by all service providers – in addition to Omniva, also other parcel companies, food couriersand more.
According to Kolesnikov, the solution is particularly suitable for families and small businesses that frequently use parcel services.
“We know that Estonians strongly prefer parcel lockers, and proximity to home is the most important factor when choosing one. A Picapac parcel locker can be installed right at your doorstep, allowing you to receive and send parcelswithout waiting for a courier or driving to a public parcel locker,” said Martti Kuldma, CEO of Omniva. “In essence, it is a smart mailbox that could also receive postal items in the near future.”
As part of the Viimsi pilot project, Omniva will install a limited number of Picapac lockers next to private houses and terraced house units. The aim of the project is to assess demand for such a solution and evaluate how a densernetwork of private parcel lockers could improve last-mile logistics efficiency. The pilot project gives customers the opportunity to try the Picapac service free of charge, although installation and use are normally paid services.
Residents of Viimsi can apply to join the pilot project by filling in the application form HERE. The number of places in the project is limited. Omniva will contact suitable applicants and make individual offers.
If the Viimsi pilot project proves successful, Omniva plans to offer the Picapac solution in other residential areas near Tallinn, including Kakumäe and Tabasalu.
