CTT – Correios de Portugal has started operating its first 100% electric heavy goods vehicle in the Northern region (Greater Porto), reinforcing the company's commitment to decarbonizing its logistics activity and marking a new step forward in the company's energy transition strategy.

With an approximate range of 200 km, the vehicle is currently operating in the Porto city area, ensuring its own fuel supply. It currently completes five weekly trips of 92 km, and is expected to begin operating in the Ovar area soon.

“The integration of this 100% electric heavy goods vehicle into the CTT fleet represents a step in the modernization of our vehicles and a concrete contribution to reducing our carbon footprint. We are aligning fleet renewal with criteria of efficiency and long-term sustainability, while simultaneously ensuring high safety standards and greater comfort for the teams in the field. This vehicle allows us to test new operational models in a real-world context, optimize routes, and progressively prepare for the expansion of our fleet's electrification, guaranteeing performance, reliability, and environmental responsibility,” highlights CTT's Fleet Manager, José Coelho.

In addition to introducing this electric heavy vehicle – which should allow for a reduction of approximately 7 tons of CO₂ by the end of the year – CTT will integrate, over the next few months, 26 heavy goods vehicles powered by HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) – a 100% renewable and sustainable biofuel produced from waste such as used cooking oils and animal fats. This commitment reinforces the company's decarbonization strategy, since HVO is a renewable fuel that allows for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional diesel.

With this initiative, CTT takes another firm step in its environmental commitment, promoting sustainable transport solutions and consolidating the energy transition throughout the logistics chain.
