Swiss Post has signed an official partnership agreement with online retailer Amazon, a spokesperson for the Swiss postal utility told CEP-Research. The subject of speculation for several months, the deal is scheduled to take effect during spring 2018 with Swiss Post handling customs clearance on behalf of Amazon for imported parcels, as well as final mile distribution. “It's a standard contract such as that which Swiss Post offers to other e-commerce players, for example, Zalando,” the spokesperson added. With Switzerland not being part of the European Union, where Amazon has several retail operations, including neighbouring Germany, customs clearance is required for shipments into the country.
