As expected, the number of parcels delivered by Posti during the season has reached an all-time high. In the period of the last four weeks, a total of seven million parcels have been delivered.

The number has increased one and a half times compared to the same period last year. The number of packages began to grow as the corona situation worsened in March. Still, the number in the last four weeks has been just over 60 percent higher than at the busiest time of spring in April.

If seven million parcels were queued, the queue would run along the roads from Hanko to Utsjoki and the other side back.

The number of parcels delivered last week was the same as the previous weekly record, 1.9 million packages.

During the season, the most important thing for us has been to focus on getting every package delivered by Christmas. Thanks for this tremendous work goes to every employee and every customer for their trust, says Tommi Kässi, Vice President, Parcel and eCommerce, Posti.

We’ve been preparing for this peak season with several measures, such as establishing a temporary network corresponding to the capacity of approximately 200 pickup points, adopting 7-day delivery, and innovating new solutions, such as leaving the parcel at the recipient’s doorstep as a COVID safety measure. The number of temporary pickup points is continuously increasing, and new pickup points are being established as required during the peak season.

To ensure smooth parcel traffic, unlike in previous years, most of the temporary pickup points will continue until the Epiphany. Smoothness is also increased by the fact that shipments are picked up as quickly as possible. This frees up space for subsequent customers ’packages, and everyone gets their shipment faster.
