Improved performance for the logistics and advertising mail sectors, as well as continued growth for parcels, drove a 9% increase in revenue for Canada Post in 2021.

Total parcels and express volumes handled by the post dropped 1% in 2021, with growth in courier and express volumes for subsidiary Purolator more than offset by falls in domestic and inbound items for Canada Post. Despite the volume decline, the post recorded revenue growth, partly through more efficient use of its network. Parcels revenue increased 11.4% in the year.

Advertising mail volumes increased 19% in 2021, largely driven by a recovery in unaddressed volumes. However, volumes for that sector remained 5% below those recorded in 2019. The post expects advertising volumes to recover to pre-pandemic levels, although uncertainty remains in the sector.
