Lower parcel volumes and macroeconomic challenges weigh on EBIT in 2022

The period 2020-2022 has seen Österreichische Post expand and diversify its product portfolio at an accelerated rate. As well as a ramping up of capex (total capex has increased more than 225% since 2018), new acquisitions have positioned the post as a significant regional player in the parcels market, with a growing domestic banking division opening up new revenue streams going forward. Meanwhile, the post enjoys market dominance in domestic mails.

Despite its diversified portfolio, Österreichische Post reported stable revenues and a decline in profitability in 2022. Reduced growth in parcels volumes (including negative growth in Turkey), combined with the effects of high energy costs and high inflation, meant that Retail & Bank – the group’s smallest business unit – was the only
division to witness overall revenue growth in 2022.
