Strong growth for domestic and international parcels offset declines for transactional and advertising mail, resulting in steady revenue growth for Royal Mail in 2019.

Total mail volumes fell by 7% year on year in 2019, with both addressed and unaddressed volumes falling sharply. While overall parcels and express volumes grew steadily, the post reported that volumes for tracked items grew by close to a fifth. Parcels accounted for more than 60% of group revenue in 2019, up from a little over 50% in 2015. During the year, the post continued its transformation into a parcels-led operator, beginning work on the first of three new parcel hubs planned for the next five years.
