In the framework of the collaboration between IPC and the Universal Postal Union (UPU), several initiatives have been taken in the field of sustainability to the benefit of all postal operators within both organisations. A series of webinars on sustainability issues relevant to the entire postal sector is being organised.

November 2018 – Webinar on Alternative vehicles, the future of postal fleets

On 07 November 2018, IPC and UPU hosted an open webinar for postal operators around the world about the introduction of alternative vehicles to postal fleets, discussing benefits for the organisations as well as challenges experienced.

In what ways can alternative vehicles bring value to postal organisations as well as to the communities they serve? How does one find the right technical solutions available on the market? Is it possible to reduce carbon emissions while also saving money on vehicle maintenance and fuel?

Posts from around the globe participated in the webinar: Surinam Post, Deutsche Post DHL Group, Royal Mail, PostNord, Australia Post, Emirates Post, Swiss Post, Poste Maroc, Iraq Post, Poste Italiane, Belize Post and Le Groupe La Poste. Two postal organisations shared their approaches and experiences, Deutsche Post DHL Group and Le Groupe La Poste.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session moderated by Pieter Reitsma, Manager Sustainability, IPC and Lovisa Selander, Sustainable Development Expert, UPU.

March 2018 – Webinar on environmental data collection

On 21 March 2018, IPC and UPU hosted an open webinar for postal operators around the world about the measuring of carbon footprints and the challenges of environmental data collection.

Carbon footprint measurement and environmental inventories call for access to large amounts of data from across operations. How does one get access to validated, credible data? How can data collection processes be managed and involvement of the necessary staff guaranteed? This first webinar hosted by IPC and UPU together looked closer at the challenges related to data management and reporting.

Posts from around the world participated in the webinar. Three postal organisations shared their approaches and experiences, CTT Portugal Post, United States Postal Service and Correos de México.

The presentations were followed by a Q&A session moderated by Pieter Reitsma, Manager Sustainability, IPC and Lovisa Selander, Sustainable Development Expert, UPU.

The videos of the presentations by USPS, CTT Portugal Post and Correos de México are available below.
